Unique About The London 2012 Summer Olympics

What Is Unique About The London 2012 Summer Olympics?
What Is Unique About The London 2012 Summer Olympics?

London was previously known as the successful host of the Summer Olympics back in 1908 and 1948. Now, it will become known again, and with help from the new and very expensive sports stadiums. It will be known again as one of the cities off the world where sports will not just be a form of recreation but a path to life. Below are the 9 excellent Reasons.

9 Reasons why Olympic organizers were right to choose London.

1. Olympic Games are carried on a five hundred acres in the Olympics Park, they've got the chair capacity of more than 180,000. This park includes the progressive facilities and stadiums, so it encourages healthy environment for sports athletes or fanatics.

2. This park includes six unique types of venues just like the Aquatic center, the Velodrome, the Basketball arena. It allows spectators and teams to move easily. They include a unique footbridge network and walkways that tourists can use to go to and change venues easily and comfortably.

3. This Olympic Games Park is located close to the Olympic village that provides accommodation for many visitors and athletes.

4. Planned efforts were already made so that the games are in an environment that is ensured to be safe as well as secured. Lots of the security bureaus were divided so as to offer the spectators as well as players a safe, convenient, and comfortable environment to allow them to enjoy the Games.

5. The transportation was given so much importance in order to ensure every spectator reaches any venue within a short time possible using public transportation, by foot and/or through cycling. New cycle lanes and railways were added to the transportation infrastructure of London. The public transportation was redesigned to make the entrance also easy for the elderly and the disabled.

6. To encourage usage of the public transportation, the huge number of tickets sold will also allow free usage of the public transportation in this city during the said event. It won't only prove a very eco-friendly solution if you access this venue, it also allows convenience to the people who are not from London.

7. The hotel accommodations when the Olympic games are starting will be very easily accessible throughout London, they've got hotels of more than 100,000 rooms, which they'll be able to choose from. There's the luxurious, the option of being cost-efficient, and student's accommodations having at least 30,000 beds made.

8. One of the aspects in this London's event which was given care will be the games broadcasting to the people throughout the world. In turn, the building of International Broadcast Center and the Main Press Center, allows the confirmed broadcast journalist like that of the BBC, Sport tv, NBC as well as many others in carrying out their work efficiently.

9. The event of 2012 has the goal of being green. To reduce the emission of carbon, to use the recyclable type of material to efficiently make use of water.

The city of London will be an ideal place for 2012's Olympics because it's a city rich with sports tradition.

British Sports in 2012 - Olympics Year Offers a Sporting Feast for Soccer Fans

2012 will without doubt be massive year for sport and a massive year for Sport in the UK in particular. London will understandably be the central focus of what is sure to be an unforgettable 12 months but there really is a bucketful of sport to enjoy and write about in 2012.

For sports fans, Olympic years or those with a major sporting event in them are always a particular highlight and for those who love to write about sport, either as a hobby for a personal blog or website or professionally as a journalist they can be a veritable feast!

The Olympic Games in London will keep many fingertips busy on keyboards not only up and down the country but across the world as athletes from many nations compete at the pinnacle of their careers. For many it's about gold, silver or bronze but for others is simply about being there.

How will the Olympic Soccer shape up and what sort of team will team GB eventually field? Will there be Welsh, Scottish and Northern Irish players lining up alongside their English counterparts or will political pressures mean that we see effectively a young and inexperienced England team take to the field?
Will former England captain, David Beckham, as is widely expected lead team GB into battle? Many believe this would indeed be a fitting way to bring down the curtain on a glittering career.

On the subject of football, during the build up to Olympics 2012, there will be the small matter of Euro 2012 in Poland and the Ukraine to deal with. Sixteen teams from around Europe hoping to lift the coveted trophy with England and the Republic of Ireland included.

Will England have done enough in their first 2 games for Wayne Rooney to still have an impact on the tournament when he returns from his 2 match suspension? Can Spain win their third major tournament in a row or will there be a surprise package?

Before all of that of course, there will be the culmination of another Premier League season. Can Manchester United retain their title or will neighbours Man City steal the thunder? Can Chelsea, Arsenal, Spurs or Liverpool put a sustained run together to challenge either of them?

If you love sport and you love soccer, perhaps there has never been a better time than 2012 to take a course in sports journalism and write passionately about the events you love!

Music Choices for the London 2012 Olympics

Music Choices for the London Summer Olympic Games
Music Choices for the London Summer Olympic Games

The clocks struck midnight on New Year's Eve 2011 and London put on the most amazing firework display in years beating many of the cities around the world who usually take the top spot in the firework display ranking.

The camera shots panned around the incredible city that is London. Fireworks came out of the world famous landmark Big Ben for the first time, as well as from the London Eye, which has been used for fireworks for the past few years. 2012 marks the year the summer Olympics will arrive in London. That was also commemorated in this extraordinary display with the Olympic rings and colours shown in the fireworks.
Music has long been associated with the Olympics. With many months still to go before the opening ceremony of the 2012 London Olympics, it remains to be seen (and more over, heard) what, and if, there will be a musical legacy associated with these Summer games. Will there mainly be popular artists such as Leona Lewis and JLS performing, or will there be more classical cross-over ones like Katherine Jenkins or Russell Watson take to the stage? Or, will the 2012 London Olympics bring a British opera singer to the fore?

This was done for the 1992 Barcelona Summer Olympics when the singer Freddie Mercury of the band Queen recorded the song Barcelona with the professional opera singer, soprano Montserrat Caball, a native of Barcelona, to coincide with the games. In fact, Freddie Mercury wanted to make more than just a song and asked if Caball would be interested in recording an album. She was - and their record, named Barcelona, was an all-time hit.

No matter what the people within the 2012 London Olympics' committee responsible for music and entertainment decide, it will be interesting to see if they decide to opt for an all-time operatic classic or decide to commission a new piece of music. We can be pretty sure that should they pick an opera aria, it will most likely be one that is sung at international opera houses, opera galas, corporate entertainment events and singing waiter performances all around the world. However, should they go for a different option and select a composer to write a new piece of music, it would obviously be a world premiere, and which composer wouldn't want their piece of music broadcast to all corners of the world, and be connected with an Olympic legacy? We will watch with great interest to see what will happen at the 2012 London Summer Olympics.

GB Olympic Football Team Build Up To the London 2012 Olympics

Team GB Olympic Football - The Build Up To the London 2012 Olympics
Team GB Olympic Football

The Build Up To the London 2012 Olympics

After a lot of discussions and debates as to whether Great Britain and Northern Ireland should have a representative in the London Olympics 2012, The GB team organisers have decided to enter a soccer team into the Olympic event. With reluctance and we'll explain later on in the article as to why, the 4 home nations football associations (England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland) have agreed to release their players to play in this year's Olympic football tournament.

The team manager will be the former Nottingham Forest and England Footballer for both club and country Stuart Pearce, an excellent international left back winning home and European trophies at club level unfortunately less so at international level, reaching semi final stages but no further. He is famous for not converting a penalty in the penalty shoot out competition in the World Cup 1990 Semi-Final England v Germany.

He is totally not to blame for the knock out of the England team they should have scored and won the game in normal time. He later went on to score in a penalty shoot out in Euro 96' against Spain, now that takes a lot of bottle! I only wish that I had had the guts and the chance to represent my country and play professional football (a little bit of frustration coming out here but never mind). After his playing career ended he went into club management managing football clubs like Nottingham Forest(caretaker), Manchester City there he was given little time to show what he could do.

At the moment he is managing a successful England Under 21 side as well as being an assistant coach to Fabio Capello to the main England football Squad. He has been given this difficult opportunity to run the team GB football team, difficult as to in picking a squad of players from all four home nation countries and making them gel as a team in such a short time period with hardly any time for training sessions leading up to the tournament.

The main reason for the reluctance of the home nation FA's to back the inclusion of a Team GB football team for the London 2012 Olympics is that they feel that it may undermine their own football associations in terms of world football. FIFA has always discussed why Great Britain has the ability to enter 4 countries into tournament events.

This has always been the case since the international associations being created. The English, Scottish Welsh and Northern Ireland associations have fought hard to remain independent from each other and quite right too in my opinion. But just think of what the strength of past squads could have been if they entered official tournaments as one team.

The likes of players such as George Best, Bobby Charlton, Bobby Moore and Denis Law all in the same international team I'm sure they would have done very well if not world World Cups and European Championships. Players such as Kenny Dalglish, Graeme Souness, Kevin keegan, Mark Lawrenson, Alan Hansen, John Toshack, Ian Rush, Mark Hughes wow I could go on and on for ages (oops! showing my age here) better stop. Anyway you get my point, there are pros and cons for the idea.

The Olympic football event makes countries pick players who are under 23 years of age, with each squad being allowed three over aged players the names being suggested for the over aged players are; Ryan Giggs(Wales), Joe Cole(England), and the famous David Beckham(England) the final decision will be made by Stuart Pearce.

London Olympics 1908 Vs 2012

The London Olympics In 1908 And 2012

When London first hosted the Olympics back in 1908, tug-of-war was an official sport, the budget was just 80,000 pounds, and African and Asian nations weren\'t even invited. As London prepares to welcome the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, we discover what\'s changed over 104 years.

Organisation

1908: The 1908 Olympics were originally awarded to Rome but the Italians pulled out, citing the cost of reconstruction following an eruption of Mount Vesuvius. London stepped in as host city and, despite the rushed preparations, pulled together one of the best organised of the first Games.

2012: London beat favourites Paris to host the 2012 Games by 54 votes to 50. The result was received in London with huge cheers by flag-waving supporters who had gathered in Trafalgar Square to hear the news.

The Olympic Stadium

1908: For the first time, a dedicated Olympic Stadium was built. Known as White City, the new arena had space for 68,000 spectators and took just 10 months to build at a cost of 60,000 pounds.

2012: The 2012 stadium is currently being built on an \'island\' in the Olympic Park, Stratford. Construction on the 80,000-capacity stadium began in 2008 and is expected to be completed next year.

Diversity at the Games

1908: There was little diversity to be found at the 1908 Olympics. The first Paralympic Games wasn\'t held until 1960 so there were no disabled athletes, and out of the 2,008 competing athletes, just 37 were women.

2012: There are now 205 National Olympic Committees, each representing a different country from Uzbekistan to Uganda. 10,500 athletes are expected to take part in the 2012 Olympic Games, and 4,200 in the Paralympics.

Opening ceremony

1908: For the first time, the competitors paraded behind their countries\' flags. However the flags of Sweden and the United States were not displayed in the main stadium, provoking furious protests. The Swedes boycotted the ceremony, while Team American refused to dip their flag to the Royal Box.

2012: Opening ceremonies have become a huge part of the Olympics, watched by one in three people around the world. Something that didn\'t exist in 1908 but is a key element of the festivities today is the Olympic Flame, which was first lit at the 1928 Amsterdam Games.

Duration of the Games

1908: The 4th Olympic games began on 27 April 1908 and ended on 21 October 1908 an incredible stretch of nearly 6 months!

2012: The 2012 Olympics is due to kick off on 27 July and will end on 12 August. The Paralympic Games will follow, taking place from 29 August to 9 September.

Strange sports

1908: Bicycle polo, tug-of-war and motor-boating were some of the more unusual (and since dropped) Olympic sports in 1908.

2012: The 26 sports that make up the Olympics today include beach volleyball, basketball and taekwondo. Who knows what the 1908 athletes would have made of them!

Courage under fire

1908: Dorando Pietri won the marathon to huge roars from the stadium audience. In the scorching July heat, he collapsed 5 times en route and even ran the wrong way in the final stages. The Italian athlete was later stripped of his gold medal for having been helped over the finishing line by officials but his near-death experience made him a worldwide hero.

2012: Oscar Pistorius was banned from competing as an able-bodied athlete in the Beijing Olympics after the IAAF decided his artificial running legs gave him an unfair advantage. The determined South African sprinter fought and overturned the ruling and has now set his sights on the 2012 Games.

Gold medals

1908: Great Britain topped the Olympic table with an incredible 56 gold medals, more than double the second-ranked United States team who won 23 gold.

2012: How many medals will Team GB win this year? Place your bets now!

The 2012 Olympic Games in London is the most highly anticipated sporting event ever to be in held in the UK. The main reason that the games are so highly anticipated by people all around the world is the fact that the quality of competitors is surely the best there has ever been. With the advances in sports science and the move towards professionalism in most sports, the standard of the athletes will ensure a fantastic spectacle. Below are some of the most highly anticipated events.

Athletics - The athletics is probably the event which is most synonymous with the image of the Olympics Games. For many of the events physicality is stripped right down the basics and the competitor is required to simply run or jump. This simple formula is eternally successful and people love to watch the fastest and fittest people on earth compete against each other. The 100 metre sprint is particularly anticipated due to the presence of Usain Bolt, the man who seems capable of breaking the world record each time he runs.

Cycling - The competitive nature of this event is unique from any other sport. For certain events the cyclist cycle in opposite directions and race against the clock in order to establish who has won. There will be much hype around the cycling as Great Britain, the home nation, has achieved good success in the past.

Swimming - The competitors in the swimming event are amongst the fittest athletes in the world. The 2012 Olympics track cycling events will be held at the Velodrome in the Olympic Park, the nearest entrance to the Velodrome being the North entrance to the park, with Leyton Station being the closest underground tube station.

To the north of Leyton is Epping station which is the north-eastern terminus of the Central Line. New visitors to this area might like to know that Epping Forest is the largest public open space in the London area, at almost 6,000 acres. The reason Epping Forest is so important today as an open space and forest so close to London is that in 1878 Acts of Parliament were passed entrusting the care of the Forest to the City of London and appointing the City as the Conservator of the Forest. It still governs how it is managed today.
The Northern Spectator Transport Mall is closest to the North entrance of the Olympic Park and has park and ride facilities. It is also close to the London 2012 has a showing the Olympic Park layout.

The Olympic track cycling events take place from Thursday 2 August 2012 to Tuesday 7 August 2012 with 5 events for women and 5 for men. In total 10 medal events.

Other than the track cycling at the 2012 London Games there are two road cycling events, road racing, one for men (240 km and one for women (14 km) and a time trial (44 km for men and 29 km for women).
The road races will start in London at The Mall, passing through the city and over The Thames via Putney Bridge. Then on through Richmond Park to Hampton Court Palace, into Surrey and Box Hill and finally back to The Mall.

The time trials will include area of Richmond, Surrey and Kingston-upon-Thames and are to be held on 1st August 2012. The road race will be held on 28 July 2012.

Paralympic Cycling events are to be held from Wednesday 5 September to Saturday 8 September 2012 and there are 32 medal events with 155 men athletes and 70 women athletes over both road and track events.

In addition to the above both Mountain Biking and BMX events.
BMX - 2 medal events over an outdoor track in The Olympic Park to be held on 8 to 10 August 2012 with 48 athletes.
